Our History

Co-operatives have a long history of serving members in Western Canada. In the early 20th century, people worked together to create retail co-operatives in many towns in the four western Canadian provinces (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia).
We pride ourselves on our customer service and invite you to visit a location closest to you. When you visit, we strive to make you to feel like “You’re at home here.”
1939 — 1999 Assiniboia Co-op
Assiniboia Co-op was formed in 1939. Willow Bunch amalgamated with Assiniboia Co-op in 1968. In 1999 Assiniboia Co-op became Southland Co-op when it amalgamated with Gravelbourg Co-op.
1999 — Present Southland Co-op Ltd.
In 1999 Southland Co-op Ltd. was formed. At that time, it consisted of the previous Assiniboia Co-op, Willow Bunch Co-op and the newly acquired Gravelbourg Co-op. Southland Co-op Ltd. expanded to include Mossbank Co-op in 2003 and in 2014 Coronach Co-op joined our organization.
2014 — Southland Co-op Ltd. celebrated their 75th Anniversary
February 1, 2014, began a year-long celebration of Southland Co-op's 75th Anniversary.
